Georgina Chapman

Georgie is the founder of Marchesa — named after Marchesa Luisa Casati,
who’s known as Europe’s most ‘notorious celebrity, & its most eccentric’,
at least for the first three decades of the 20th century.
{I am definetly going to have to read more about that gem.}

Georgina Chapman

How does she design? Well she …
‘looks for anything that’s unusual,
that I feel like I’m never going to see again…’

Georgina Chapman––––
She compares herself to ‘… a magpie’
{I am sure she means a collector & not the bird}
… whom likes ‘anything that sparkles’.
The outfit below came about because she had …
‘a lot of embroidery left over’ and nothing to wear.

I am in total agreement with Vanity Fair here:
‘No one could do quite so much with leftovers.’
Two cheers for strong & influential woman of the world.

Friday May 14th, 2010 01:54 7 Little Things About Me: by Jennie of ‘Openhouse.org’

  1. Although I never went to Pittsburgh until I was an adult I have been a die-hard devoted fan of the the Pittsburgh Penguins since I was 9.
  2. I abhor celery.
  3. I’m addicted to going to school.  Seriously.  I love to learn. Yes, I am a nerd.
  4. I’m usually good at painting my own fingernails.  I’m not bad at doing other’s either.
  5. I hate the name Jennifer so I embraced my nickname.  I began insisting people spell it with an ie in middle school.   The thought of being buried with Jennifer on my tombstone gives me nightmares.  I’m considering legally changing it.
  6. I drive a yellow beetle and I am determined that never have another colored car for the rest of my life.
  7. My birthday is two days after Dr. Seuss.  Because we are birthday week buddies I feel a deep connection to his work.  His writing is deep, yet simplistic.  His illustrations are color and zany, but with dark simple lines.  That is very similar to my personal interior design philosophy.

Vogue Gone Rogue
  1. i sleep really strange hours. in any situation, i’m always the last person left awake.
  2. though i love fashion, i’m also a huge nerd. i’m a computer geek, i play video games, read comic books and sci-fi/fantasy is my favorite book genre. i’m obscenely good at mario kart wii — not in a conceited way but more in an i-spent-way-too-many-hours-playing kind of way.
  3. i randomly make up songs around the house. they are generally about my cats and/or shoes. some of my greatest hits include: upside down little kitty, strappy strappy black shoes, and roland is a kitty.
  4. i would rather make something than buy it any day.  i tend to only buy things i can’t possibly make.
  5. when i was growing up in southern california, my parents and i moved around a lot. i attended 11 different schools from kindergarten to 12th grade. most people feel sorry for me, but i actually loved it! my favorite part was all the art classes i got to take with a variety of different teachers.
  6. last summer, i moved from new york to milan, italy.  as a result, i’m officially trilingual, which is really exciting to me.
  7. i had my first photography exhibit when i was 8 years old.
