Tuesday June 1st, 2010 02:30 An Artistic Seaside Escape

My husband always says
I would cover every single square inch of wall {a la Herb & Dorothy}
in every single room of our house with art, if he would let me.
And the truth is I would. No doubt.
My latest crush is Nick Hais …

I was fortunate enough to view some pieces first hand while on vaca.
And the texture. The color. The realism.
The whimsy. The web does not do this man justice!
I was in love.
However, not with the price tag.
Thus, I was forced to walk away empty handed.

But still …
check out Nick Hais.

Tuesday May 18th, 2010 03:50 Fashion {& grace} Icon: Georgina Chapman

Georgina Chapman
––––
Georgie is the founder of Marchesa — named after Marchesa Luisa Casati,
who’s known as Europe’s most ‘notorious celebrity, & its most eccentric’,
at least for the first three decades of the 20th century.
{I am definetly going to have to read more about that gem.}

Georgina Chapman

How does she design? Well she …
‘looks for anything that’s unusual,
that I feel like I’m never going to see again…’

Georgina Chapman

Georgina Chapman––––
She compares herself to ‘… a magpie’
{I am sure she means a collector & not the bird}
… whom likes ‘anything that sparkles’.
The outfit below came about because she had …
‘a lot of embroidery left over’ and nothing to wear.

I am in total agreement with Vanity Fair here:
‘No one could do quite so much with leftovers.’
Two cheers for strong & influential woman of the world.

Wednesday May 12th, 2010 03:06 7 Little Things About Me: by Kristy of ‘Vogue Gone Rogue’

Vogue Gone Rogue
  1. i sleep really strange hours. in any situation, i’m always the last person left awake.
  2. though i love fashion, i’m also a huge nerd. i’m a computer geek, i play video games, read comic books and sci-fi/fantasy is my favorite book genre. i’m obscenely good at mario kart wii — not in a conceited way but more in an i-spent-way-too-many-hours-playing kind of way.
  3. i randomly make up songs around the house. they are generally about my cats and/or shoes. some of my greatest hits include: upside down little kitty, strappy strappy black shoes, and roland is a kitty.
  4. i would rather make something than buy it any day.  i tend to only buy things i can’t possibly make.
  5. when i was growing up in southern california, my parents and i moved around a lot. i attended 11 different schools from kindergarten to 12th grade. most people feel sorry for me, but i actually loved it! my favorite part was all the art classes i got to take with a variety of different teachers.
  6. last summer, i moved from new york to milan, italy.  as a result, i’m officially trilingual, which is really exciting to me.
  7. i had my first photography exhibit when i was 8 years old.

Monday May 10th, 2010 03:45 7 Little Things About Me

Since I have started blogging, I have gotten to know certain bloggers through their posts. I read their blogs every day and thus I feel as though I am their friend. Some I know in real life, some I only know over the web. I wrote to some of my favorites and asked to learn more about them. I had a terrific response and for the next five days I will be posting seven interesting things about my new {or old} friends. These quirky little facts made me feel closer to the bloggers I consider part of my community, and they made me laugh. Since some were reluctant at first to share, I am starting off with 7 things about me. I hope you enjoy!

  1. I may forget a person’s name or face, but I will never forget the smell of their perfume or cologne. Most of my best friends are defined in my mind by their signature scents whether it be Clinique {Jennie} or Chanel {MJ}. Consequently, my most vivid memories are associated with a smell.
  2. I hate squirrels. Hate.
  3. I have the same exact name as my mother, including middle name. I have gotten audited by the IRS due to this. This is one of the main reasons I agreed to change my name after marriage; even though I feel it’s a barbaric custom.
  4. I decided to learn photography because I liked the sound of the shutter as it closed. I still do.
  5. I cheat {poorly} at board/card games, billiards, softball — even at solitaire. The only game at which I never cheat is Scrabble.
  6. My first nickname came from my now-husband in our teenage years. He referred to me as Shiva {of Final Fantasy fame}. She was the god of ice and destruction — the ‘Ice Queen’. I loved it.
  7. I am allergic to nuts — all kinds. And oddly enough, celery.
