Working For The {MAN} Every Night & Day

Remind me, why do I work so hard every day?
Oh, I remember …
––––

REASON #1: Food, shelter, shoes, cupcakes … all the necessary things in life. {picture via Jenna Fain}

REASON#2: To own one of these … someday; eventually. Funny story is, I saw this exact bag in a store the other day and fell in love. I looked at the price tag and saw $350 {!!} … thought ‘Holy Chanel! Totally worth it!’ Then a friend pointed out is was $3,500. True story. Sad, but true.

REASON #3: For him. ♥ And him. ♥ { … ‘But I never lost a minute of sleepin, Worryin ’bout the way things might have been’ … Sing it, Tina}

Bluefly Closest Collection Darlings

Have you ever watched these? Because I do not know who shoots them, or edits them, but they are the most adorable little videos. I just fall in love with whoever is featured — and I have a feeling the editing is making the participants look like the darlings they are.

I think I have the Malocchio

No, this is not some sort of weird or disgusting disease. The Malocchio is known — for all you non-italians - as the Evil Eye. Italians are notoriously superstitious and being Italian these superstions did happen to find their way down to me:

•  Never put shoes on a table
•  Don’t itch an itchy palm,
•  Bread must always face up
•  Don’t leave your hat on your bed
•  Never toast with a glass of water
•  If you spill wine at the table, dab some behind both ears
•  Plant lavender at your front gate/door for luck
•  And the most serious, the power of the Malocchio curse

When I was a newborn, my great grandmother would take off her own Italian horn charm and pin it to my diaper to protect me. She would say someone could curse you without even knowing they were doing it, as well as on purpose. If she believed you had been cursed she would take out her knives and sing some sort of chant over your head to remove the Malocchio. Modern relatives would all roll their eyes at her, but years later they did admit to feeling better after this little ceremony. Sadly, she passed away before I learned why she believed this so strongly and how to do her secret chant.

For years, I took this belief to heart and always wore my hand and horn charms. Then a few years ago — after a fight with a bride about not wearing them with my bridesmaids dress — I took them off, felt no different, and thus never put them back on. Until Monday. I truly feel someone has put the Malocchio on me. I feel things have been happening that have no explanations or reason. You don’t need to tell me … I sound like a loon on loon pills, right?

Maybe you don’t believe in curses? That is understandable. But I believe. I just wish my big Great-Grams was alive to remove the curse. Anyone have any weird superstitions like me?
