Designing for friends…

Truth be told, I usually don't like or agree to design for friends. I feel like designing for a friend usually sucks because a) they won't tell you if they don't like something/want something changed because they don't want to hurt your feelings and b) they normally think that since you are a friend you = free labor. And I am a firm believer that the phrase 'it's not personal, it's just business' is complete BS. However, there is always the exception to the rule... and hence a new design challenge was born. When my friend and colleague asked for my help designing the header for her HILARIOUS AND FABULOUS blog site I, of course, wanted to help her and oddly enough knew we would work well together. She said 'I like unicorns and purple', I added that together with the other nuances of her character (that I had surmised from working with her for almost two years) and 'VWALLLAA'. The end result thrilled her. How do I know this? Well, she loved the header so much that she asked me to design her business cards.
